Scary calculation!

So I  did some sums the other day, adding up the height of climbing involved in the two routes, and came up with the figure of 58,000 feet.  That’s twice the height of Mount Everest, from sea level!

It shocked me somewhat, and has made me question for the first time if I am going to be able to complete the challenge.  I have been practising climbing as much as I can in and around Belfast, going out of my way to cycle up some of the meanest inclines I can find, but the sheer volume of climbing to be done is a little intimidating.  I guess that I now need to break that huge figure back down again, and simply take it on one hill at a time…
