…may have a silver lining, but it seemed that every cloud in Northern Ireland today was intent on dropping its contents on me as I headed for the Glens of Antrim on a long training run. Of the first fifty miles, about forty were done in the wet. The silver lining was the chance to try out my new waterproof leggings, which worked a treat. They are actually designed for mountain running, but worked well on the bike, being close fitting round the calves.
Thankfully the rain stopped as I headed inland from Cushendun, and I got back to Belfast with no more damp and 101 miles on the clock. With most of the climbing done in the second half of the trip, I was perhaps understandably tired at around 80 miles, but fed myself regularly for the rest of the trip and rallied somewhat.
