I have been thinking about the first day’s cycling, and wondering if by taking out some of the hills I will be missing the best part of the scenery.

I have created another route (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1339160) which reverts to the portion of the route originally planned as day 2, going through Killarney national park.  At 87 miles it is a shorter route by 6 miles, but has an extra 1000 feet of climbing in it. I think that I will go for it, as the scenery is as much part of why I am doing the ride as the feat of riding from one end of Ireland to the next. After all, if I am only interested in getting the distance in to the destination, I may as well do the miles on the turbo trainer in the garage and stay dry…
